Alaa Nfissi

Researcher, doctoral candidate and author of Signal Press Bureau.

The person behind the bureau

Alaa Nfissi is a doctoral candidate in artificial intelligence and information systems engineering at Concordia University in Montréal. His research connects learnable signal representations, speech and emotion analysis, interpretable models and reliable multimodal learning.

He is a research assistant at Université TÉLUQ and a research member of CRISE at UQAM. His doctoral research is supervised by Nizar Bouguila and co-supervised by Wassim Bouachir. He holds a research master’s degree from École Polytechnique de Tunisie and an engineering degree in computer science, specializing in data science, from ESPRIT.

His research starts with complex human signals: noisy recordings, incomplete observations and modalities that do not always agree. He studies how to learn representations that preserve useful mathematical properties, carry uncertainty into a decision and make a model’s output open to examination by a domain expert.

The work connects methodological research with reproducible software. It spans raw-waveform emotion recognition, learnable wavelets and fractional superlets, speech enhancement, feature attribution and multimodal fusion. Speech and affect provide demanding test settings for a wider interest in reliable AI for biomedical and behavioral data.

Signal Press Bureau is his personal research and editorial platform. Signal Press names its editorial language: a place to connect papers, code, methods and the human questions behind them.
