Privacy

How the bureau handles preferences, correspondence and optional measurement.

Reading, writing and your data

The bureau stores essential session cookies for sign-in and a preference when you choose Print or Night Signal. Optional Google Analytics is loaded only after you accept analytics on a public page. You can reject it or withdraw consent through Analytics preferences in the footer. The analytics choice is stored for up to 180 days.

Optional measurement uses the existing Google Analytics property through Google Tag Manager. Public page paths and bounded interaction categories are measured; query strings, form values and account or admin pages are excluded by the application. Advertising consent stays denied. Vercel provides hosting and operational performance services.

Correspondence forms store the information you submit privately so the bureau can respond. Cloudflare Turnstile helps protect forms from abuse, and Resend delivers account and service email. Do not submit sensitive health information or confidential research data through a public form.

Profile pictures are optional public assets. Account settings let you replace or remove your current picture. Previously published editorial uses may remain until reviewed. Account privacy tools support access and deletion requests; you may also contact the bureau. Data is not sold.
